About Earthquake Safety
History In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, an increase in earth movements reminded us all of California’s vulnerability to earthquakes. Seismologists and engineers recommended the earthquake retrofitting of existing homes in order to improve safety and prevent financial loss. Gregory Prinsze and Wayne Harrison, licensed contractors at the time, recognized the need for a seismic retrofitting service for East Bay homeowners, and founded Earthquake Safety in Oakland, California in 1984. Since that time, Earthquake Safety has built a solid reputation throughout the Bay Area for providing top-quality residential seismic retrofits at competitive prices.
Experience Since 1984 we have strengthened over 6,500 homes in three Bay Area counties and 35 cities. Our highly skilled inspectors attend regular training programs offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES), the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), and the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO). Our installation crews, all full-time employees, receive initial and ongoing training from one of our company principals and are certified by Hilti, a manufacturer of anchoring systems.
